Finding support for you or your child can be a difficult and confusing process. I strive to offer compassionate support in finding the best options. Please reach out if you have any additional questions.
ContactI worked as a special education teacher for 7 years and have a M.S. in Education & a M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction. I am a certified Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner (W.D.P.), Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist (C-SLDI), and Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) in training. I have hundreds of additional professional development hours, including with IMSE, Reading Simplified, UFLI, thinkSRSD, and other programs and materials. I regularly attend conferences on literacy and other topics so I can keep up to date with new research and evidence. I have previously served as part of my building leadership team and student success teams within my previous school district.
Tutoring is designed for children and adults at any reading level. More intensive intervention / therapy can benefit striving learners, including individuals with dsylexia. If you are uncertain about the benefit please reach out and we can discuss further.
I have certification or training in Wilson Reading System, Take Flight, IMSE, UFLI, ThinkSRSD, and Writing Our World. I am also developing my own materials and program that can flexibly meet individual needs based on 7+ years of professional experience, education, and professional development.
I provide comprehensive literacy instruction that is tailored for you or your child's individualized needs. This may include phonemic awareness, phonics, spelling, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and writing. I also provide tutoring for elementary math. If you have other needs, please reach out and we can discuss if those can be met or if there is someone we can refer you to.
I offer both in-person and online sessions to fit your schedule.
I do not currently offer more in-depth assessments (including norm-referenced measures). I will also complete regular progress monitoring for intervention / therapy level services. If you would like informal assessments to help guide a structured plan then we can discuss that on an individual basis.
At this time, services are either provided at your location or at a mutual location (e.g. library). I will work with you to find the best option. In the future, I plan on having a dedicated office space.
Tutoring typically supports general skills or homework help. It is often short-term, less formal, and helps with grade level tasks. Intervention or therapy level services are individualized, support the development of necessary foundational skills, provide progress monitoring to ensure continued growth, and is longer term. For literacy, it involves structured, evidence-based interventions.
If you do not have a formal diagnosis, children who struggle with reading accuracy, fluency, and spelling may benefit from a screening or further assessments. Schools in Wisconsin are now required to assess for difficulties in reading in K-3 and will have communicated to you if your child is not meeting expected benchmarks. You can find out more about dyslexia in the International Dyslexia Association's "Dyslexia Handbook" and the Reading Rockets website.
